How are
the class sessions structured?
All classes will consist of lectures, interactive
discussions and class follow-up. At the end
of each day, you will be tested on materials
you have read in advance of class, assignments
in the texts and study guides, and from class
lectures and discussions. You will have at
least four tests during each session. In addition,
you will have a group case to work on in
the evening that facilitates working with
a team of advisors in a particular subject
area.
What is the typical class schedule?
Classes will be held
from 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays and Saturdays
and from 8 am to 2 pm on Sundays. Each class
will cover some of the 89 topics tested by
the CFP® Board. By the conclusion
of this program, you will have gone over all
89 topics. This is accomplished in a four-prong
approach. First, we discuss the significance
and importance of each topic, basically identifying “what
it is.” Next, we discuss the exposures
and weaknesses affecting the client resulting
from this topic. Third, we provide recommendations
and solutions that address these specific client
exposures. Lastly, we provide practical
real-life examples of how to deal with clients
in these areas.
We will break for lunch on your own every day except Sunday.
I know I have a commitment that will prevent
me from attending one of the sessions of
your AFPP. Is there any way to make that
up and still take the program?
Yes, we have an agreement with the other institutions
where Jeffery Rattiner, our instructor, teaches
the same program; students may attend at another location to make up the missed session but due to limited seating, students must call ahead and reserve a spot.
There is no charge to attend, except you will
be responsible for your travel expenses. Those
travel costs, if you know them at the time,
can be added to your Sallie Mae Educational Loan request
(if you are applying for the Continuing Education
Loan).
How much time will this program take outside
of the classroom?
As a student of this
program, you can expect to put in
an appropriate amount of time to qualify yourself
for the exam. You will be required to read
the texts and all materials PRIOR to reporting
to the class each month and you should be prepared to study between 60 – 100
hours per month in addition to classroom time.
What do I need to bring to class?
You will be given a
notebook with handouts for each month’s
classes. Bring that notebook and your textbook,
notepaper, pens and pencils. You will need
an HP 12C calculator. Working with the calculator
will be an integral part of the classes. Problems
and questions will be taught with HP 12C keystrokes.
However, if you feel confident with another
calculator model, you may use it.

What does the AFPP fee cover?
The AFPP fee includes instruction, books and instructional materials, parking, refreshments, and an Arizona State University certificate of completion.
What is NOT included in the AFPP fee?
The fee does not include
lodging, ground transportation, meals, or registration
for the CFP® Certification
Examination. The CFP® Certification Examination
is under the jurisdiction of the CFP Board
of Standards, Inc. and the fee to take the
exam is paid to the CFP Board. You can, however,
add that fee to your Sallie Mae loan request.
When is the CFP® Certification
Examination?
The AFPP is scheduled
to end a few weeks prior to the CFP Certification Examination.
The materials used in the last session (Module
6 - CFP Certification Examination Review)
are specific to the exam following that AFPP.
Is there an exam review course for me if I have already completed the CFP® education requirement?
The ASU CFP® Review is offered with the same high quality instruction as the AFPP. Click here for more information.
Do I have to make a deposit to register?
No, we do not require a deposit. You may register
without paying any fees and we will bill you.
But you must pay by the deadline listed on
our Web site to hold your place and to receive
your materials. We encourage participants to
complete their registration and payment processes
(online, by mail or fax, or by phone) as early
as possible, because there is an extensive
reading requirement before the first class.
What are the requirements for successful
completion and credit for this program?
You must pass each session
to successfully complete this program and to
receive credit to allow you to take the CFP® Certification
Examination.
What else is required
to obtain the CFP® credential?
All the requirements are explained on the CFP
Board of Standards, Inc. Web site at www.cfp.net.
